Frequently Asked Questions

So, how do commissions work?

Glad you asked! You come up with the idea and I will help you with the design and creation of the artwork.

You will be paying in 3 installments for your commission:

First, to secure your spot in my schedule and to cover the creation of the design, I ask for an upfront $100 payment (this will go towards the cost of your mosaic) and a signed Commitment Contract that outlines the type of mosaic you would like created.

Next, when your commission is next in line for me to create, I will contact you to show you and finalize the design, size, price and completion of the mosaic. A Commission Contract will be made with 50% non refundable down payment due at the time of signage and the remaining 50% due at time of completion of the mosaic.

Example: Commissioning a 8”x10” Mosaic (Cost $280)

$100-due at signed Commitment Contract

$90-Non refundable down payment due at Signage of Commission Contract

$90-Due at time of completion of Mosaic.

How much do you charge for commissions?

You will want to have a budget in mind so that I can easily work with you on size and the complexity of the mosaic.

**Please note that it is difficult to create Pet Portraits or anything that has a lot of detail on a small scale. The smallest I go is 8”x 8”.

I typically charge $500 per sq. ft. and this includes the the glass that I use and my time to create your mosaic. Please know that I do charge a MN Sales Tax of 6.875% for your commission. You can also use this calculator to help determine the size and price of your commission. Be sure to change the tabs to inches and where it asks for “price” type in 500. Hope that helps!

Here are some examples of sizes and their prices:
8” x 8”=$220

8” x 10”=$280

10” x 10”=$345

12” x 12”=$500

11” x 14”=$535

How long will it take to create my commission?

Depends on my schedule, the size, and complexity of your idea. Smaller mosaics typically take me anywhere between 2-3 weeks to complete where as bigger mosaics will take me quite longer.

Can you ship my commission?

Absolutely! I can ship almost anywhere in the world, you will be responsible to pay for the cost of shipping.

Can these mosaics be hung outdoors?

For the most part, yes, but please let me know if this mosaic is intended to be for outdoor display. I will have to use a different process to secure the glass to the backer. If you live in a colder or wet climate, you will want to keep your mosaic indoors.

Where do you buy your materials?

A bunch of different places, but I try to buy as local and from small businesses as possible. Here are a list of business I have purchased my material:

Michael’s Stained Glass Studio

J. Ring Glass

Maryland Mosaics

Skeew.biz

Delphi Glass
